Harps fans say a fond farewell to Kevin McHugh

Finn Harps captain Kevin McHugh

Finn Harps supporters said farewell to a club legend on an emotional night at Finn Park on Friday night.

Harps captain Kevin McHugh had intended to retire from the game at the end of this campaign, but he announced his retirement earlier than planned  when he suffered a horrific hand injury in a training ground accident a few weeks ago.

On Friday night, Harps fans chanted his name and gave a round of applause in the 10th minute of their team's game with Bohs - McHugh of course wore the No. 10 shirt with such distinction over a fantastic career.

And at half time, the Killea man took to the pitch where he thanked the fans for their support over a career that goes back to August 1998 when he made his Harps debut against Fanad United.

Eighteen years later, and after 186 goals and 438 appearances, he's rightly considered one of the very best to have ever worn a Harps shirt.
