Bonagee United U-14s scored an impressive victory over Killarney Celtic at the LYIT grounds in Letterkenny yesterday morning.
Bonagee United 2
Killarney Celtic 1
The win means Brendan Carlin's side advance to the last 32 of the SFAI U14 Cup and on this performance, they can certainly go even further in the competition.
They were up against a very good Killarney side who enjoyed plenty of possession, especially in the first half.
However, Bonagee got the goals at vital moments in the game and even though Killarney pulled a goal back close to the finish, the home side managed to hold out for the win.
Bonagee opened the scoring on seven minutes when Finnian O'Donnell scored a brilliant solo effort, beating his man and then rounding the keeper to score.
Prior to that, the visitors had gone close twice only to be denied by Adrian McLaughlin in the Bonagee goal.
Either side of half time, Bonagee had chances to double their advantage. O'Donnell saw a shot saved by the Killarney keeper, Dylan Doona.
Then early in the secondhalf, Doona did well to save from Bonagee's Ben Gallagher.
Killarney had their moments at the other end too and in one incident, Kieran Tobin produced a brilliant defensive block to deny the visitors the equaliser.
Within a minute, Jack Murphy scored Bonagee's second, unleashing a terrific long range strike which flew into the net off the woodwork.
Evan Looney did ensure a nervy finish when his free kick found the net with five minutes remaining.
However, Bonagee had done just enough to win and when the final whistle came soon after, they celebrated another impressive victory.
