Badminton: Donegal U-17s dominate in Ulster
The first juvenile badminton competition of 2015 took place in The Jim Watt Centre, Garvagh on Saturday 3 Januarty.

The first juvenile badminton competition of 2015 took place in The Jim Watt Centre, Garvagh on Saturday 3 Januarty.

The competition featured the top U-17 Ulster Inter League team championships, Division 1. Jack Wilson Cup and Division 2 Bingy Morrison Cup.

The Co. Donegal U-17 squad, 2014 Div. 1 and Div. 2. defending Ulster champions , accompanied by Donegal Juvenile competition director William Love, Donegal head coach Ian Macbeth, assistant coach Wesley Knox and assistant Diane Gallagher with transport provided by Gerry McLoughlin Coaches, Convoy arrived at the Garvagh venue for the 9.00 am start.

Div. 1. Jack Wilson Cup.

The Donegal A. team qualified for the Div. 1. with a comfortable win over Coleraine B. and very successfully defended their Div. 1. title beating Coleraine A. and holding off a very strong challenge from North Down who were runners up.

Results Donegal A. 13 pts. 2015 U. 17 Ulster Inter League Div. 1. Champions and Jack Wilson Cup winners Team captain Shannon Russell, Emma Gallagher, Kim Laird, Chloe Lowry, Mark Laird, Jamie McKinney and Stuart McKinley.

Runners up North Down 5 pts., 3 rd. place Coleraine A. 3 pts.

Div. 2. Bingy Morrison Cup

The Donegal B. team, who were narrowly beaten in the qualifying round by North Down, proved too strong for Coleraine B. and Down , successfully defending their Div. 2. Title.

Team captain Jack Macbeth, Cameron Wilson, Andrew Wilson , Aaron Knox, Lynne McKinley, Cody Anderson, Louise Stewart and Vanessa McHugh. Runners up Coleraine B. 4 pts., 3rd. place Down. 3 pts.

The chairperson Alison Park, Sect. Louise McFarlane of Coleraine and Dt. Badminton League , made the presentations. William Love, congratulated Coleraine and Dt. on the very efficient manner they ran the competition and provided tea, sandwiches ectra. for all the players and coaches through out the day and also congratulated all the Donegal players and coaches on their outstanding ongoing success, Fleming Steel, parents, juvenile sect. Stephanie Laird and Gerry McLoughlin Coaches for all their assistance.
