The Winter League is drawing to a conclusion and there is only one day of jumping left the Final next Sunday the 22nd of February.

The showjumping last Sunday was the 7th week of the League and saw the riders ensuring they completed the required amount of days to be eligible for prizes in the final. As the riders walked the course a few were feeling nervous and thought that the course might cause a few problems but in the end faults were spread throughout the course.

Kayla Curran riding Yankee was first up to test the course for the starter stakes and with her helpers went clear and picked up a clear round rosette. In the 40cm class Zoe Boyle picked up a great clear round rosette as she made the course look easy . Once again this week, in the 50cm class there were no clear rounds.

The 60cm class had the ever steady Lauren Bradley and Hannah Marie Slater pick up clear round rosettes for both of their rounds. Mona Vial was back in action this week and once again rode a great clear round. Zoe Boyle on Dancer completed her double as she too went clear. Ally McClay was very close to picking up her first clear round in the 60 cm class but an unlucky 4 faults at fence 2 prevented her from collecting a rosette. Charlie Vial was back riding his horse Ozzy and jumped a great round to earn his
clear round rosette.

The 70cm class had only 4 riders go clear and once again it was Mona Vial on Roddy who was in top form earning her clear round rosette. She was joined by Marie Hainsworth on Sandy who jumped a superb round to pick up a rare clear round rosette for her. Cyndi Graham on Dougal had to work extremely hard to get her clear round rosette but it was worth the effort as she rode the course well. Katie Long also had her hands full as her horse Alistair was eager to get started but she took it all in her stride and jumped clear.

The 80cm class saw nearly all the riders jump clear as they made the course look easy. First into the arena was Kirsten Rice on Rambo and in his usual relaxed way he jumped just enough to go clear. Marie Molloy on Cojo jumped a great round flying clear of all the jumps.Ella Clancy was in action on Milly and jumped a lovely round, while Mona Vial, Patrick Hunter, Lucy Stewart and Lauren Bradley all jumped good clear rounds increasing their tally of clear round rosettes. Once again Mona has done the treble and collected 3 clear round rosettes for the day.

The 90cm class saw the riders picking up a few more faults and it was left to Patrick Hunter on Eurolady and Kirsten Rice on Rambo to collect the clear round rosettes. Lauren Bradley on Lacey and Ella Clancy on Millie both picked unlucky faults in their second rounds. Karl Kee on Gold Girl and Debbie Ramsbottom on Just like Jake both had to work hard to earn their clear round rosettes as their respective horses were strong around the course. Karl Kee was the only one clear in the 1m class as his horse powered around the course.

The competition for the Junior Champion Rider is intense with 3 riders all on 60 points, the riders are Lauren Bradley, Hannah Marie Slater and Patrick Hunter who is in with a chance for the cup in two classes.

In the competition for the Senior Champion Rider there are two riders on 60 points Lucy Stewart and Mona Vial. Lucy Stewart was unlucky today as she dropped points while Mona picked up points in two classes. But they both will need to be on their toes and continue their good form as Kirsten Rice is very close behind on 55 points so it is still all to play for on the final day and any mistake might give some one the upper hand.

The Winter League Final is next Sunday the 22nd of February. The same horse and rider combination must have competed in 4 out of the 7 Sundays in order to be eligible for prizes on the Final Day but all riders are welcome on the day.

Thanks to our judge Bernie Hernon and scribes Mary Rice and Cyndi Graham and arena helpers who helped the show run smoothly. For further details contact Alax Deane on 074 9737160 or check Facebook at Deane’s Farm
