There was a big turnout of Tirconaill AC runners along with others from clubs across the county as well as from Omagh, Enniskillen and Ballymena when the second round of the Donegal cross country championships held in summer lime conditions in Castlefinn on Sunday last.
Thanks to the Finn Valley club for its successful hosting of the event and for their preparations in getting the course ready . Well done to everyone who took part and good luck with your preparations for forthcoming Ulster and All Ireland Cross Country events.
Tir Chonaill athletes again recorded a number of top class performances. Daniel Gallagher, from Dunkineely, in the Boys U17, 4,000m event ran a tactically smart race before taking the lead in the final 500m and outpaced Finn Valley’s Oisin Gallen, the U18 winner from Rd 1 in the Rosses, for an impressive and deserving victory. Newcomer to the sport, Emily Mc Gill, in the Girls U15 ,3,000m ran a very positive and even paced race to finish 7th overall and 3rd Donegal athlete home. As the race progressed Emily worked her way through the field from the late teens at half way to pass runner after runner on the final circuit. Race colleague Keri O’Loughlan and U13 contestants Cliona Mc Manus and Kate Shovelin also had successful performances.

Co Board AGM
The Donegal Co Board AGM, hosted by Rosses AC, on Monday night last in Dungloe was well attended, had numerous positive outgoing officer reports and elected the following officers to serve for the coming year. Chairman Neil Martin, Finn Valley, Vice Chairman David Doherty, Tir Chonaill, Secretary, Bernie O’Callaghan, Finn Valley, Treasurer, Gerry Davenport, Letterkenny, Registrar, Danny McDaid, Letterkenny, Juvenile Competitions Secretary, Brendan O’Donnell, Lifford, Senior Competitions Secretary, Brendan McDaid, Letterkenny, Records Officer, Tom Thompson, Finn Valley, Coaching Officer, Eamon Harvey, Tir Chonaill Child Protection Officer, Bernie O’Callaghan. Outgoing Secretary Niall McGee, Innishowen AC, who did not seek re-election, was thanked and praised for his work on behalf of athletics during the past six years. Tir Chonaill wishes the incoming board every success.
Athletics Leaders Course
A number of club members will attend next Saturday’s [19th October] Athletics Leader coaching course in Manorhamilton. The one day 9.30am to 4.30pm course covers the fundamentals of agility, balance, co-ordination and athletics and qualifies the participants to assist with coaching in a club or school situation. Any club member wishing to avail of the opportunity of attending this course contact club Secretary David Doherty, or Coaching Officer Eamon Harvey at once
The club monthly meeting will be held on Friday night in McGinleys, Ballyshannon at 8pm. All club members are welcome to attend. Issues/ proposals for attention to be forwarded to Secretary David Doherty
