The announcement of Jason Quigley as the Donegal Sports Star of 2013 was very well received at the Awards Night in the Mount Errigal Hotel.

There may not have been much surprise when the announcement was made, but it was a very worthy choice as the Finn Valley Boxing Club member had a magnificent year with European gold and World silver.

Quigley, ranked No. 1 in the world in his weight, dedicated his win to his father and coach, Conor.

On a very good night for sport in the county, the special guest was FAI chief, John Delaney, who seemed very much at home when interviewed on stage by MC for the night, Chris Ashmore.

Among the other highlights of the night was a special award to Jason Black for making his own piece of history by climbing Mount Everest. His interview with the MC was a special moment as he urged young people to set their targets high.

The Donegal hurlers had a good night winning the coach award (Ray Durack) and the team award for winning the Nicky Rackard Cup, while one of the legends of soccer, Hughie ‘Dickie’ Doherty of Buncrana was honoured with the Hall of Fame Award.
