Donegal’s Karl Griffin (Tir Chonaill AC) put in a stunning run to win the men’s 400m at the Woodie’s DIY National Junior Championships at Nenagh at the weekend.
Griffin stepped down from his preferred 800m distance and convincingly won the 400m in a time of 50.43.
This put Griffin over a second clear of his nearest rival James Greene (Ferrybank AC), who was timed at 51.53. The ease at which the Donegal athlete showed when securing the national title, signals that there is plenty more to come from this talented junior athlete.
Griffin claimed the 800m bronze medal for Ireland at last summer’s European Youth Olympic Festival. This early season focus on the 400m will set the young Donegal athlete up for an even more successful 2012 season.
