The Winter League was back in action at Deanes Equestrian Centre last Sunday. It was a foggy start to the day but it soon turned into a fantastic Winter’s day and a great day for jumping.

In the starter stakes there was a change to the usual order and it was Kayla Curran riding Yankee who went clear and picked up a clear round rosette.

In the 40cm class Zoe Boyle took on the course with enthusiasm and flew around in style to earn herself a clear round rosette. In the 50cm class there were no clear rounds.

The 60cm class provided a test for the riders but it was Lauren Bradley who came out on top as she rode two horses in the class, Jayzee and Emmett, and picked up clear round rosettes for both. Lauren was joined by Hannah Marie Slater on Tilly who rode a fantastic round and also got a clear round rosette.

The 70cm class saw riders picking up some unlucky faults but it was Lucy Stewart on Dedo who was in form and she rode a great round. Aine Hunter had to work hard to earn her clear round rosette but it was well deserved.

The 80cm class saw six riders picking up clear round rosettes. Lauren Bradley was back in action riding Lacey and despite hitting a few poles she collected her third rosette for the day. Ella Clancy rode a great round on Millie while Marie Molloy had one of her best rounds to date riding Cojo. Katie Long on Alistair provided a great display of horse riding as she guided an excited Alistair around the course picking up a clear round rosette in the process. Aine and Patrick Hunter completed the double for the Hunter Household as they both rode clear rounds.

The 90cm class saw clear round rosettes going to Patrick Hunter on Eurolady and Marie Molloy on Cojo both who jumped great rounds. Lauren Bradley on Lacey managed to go clear despite some steering problems earning her fourth clear round rosette. While Ella Clancy on Millie finished off a great day by going clear in the 90cm class.

As it stands at the moment Lauren Bradley, Hannah Marie Slater and Patrick Hunter all sit on 50 points for the Junior Champion Rider Competition and with 2 weeks left there is still a lot to play for as there are several riders on 40 points and only a clear round behind.

In the Senior Champion Rider Competition Lucy Stewart is out in front on 60 points but is followed closely by Mona Vial on 50 points and Kirsten Rice back on 40 points.

The Winter League continues next Sunday 15th February and runs for 2 more Sundays. The same horse and rider combination must compete in 4 out of the 7 Sundays in order to be eligible for prizes on the Final Day. Thanks to our judge Ken McGlinchey and scribe Tommy Slater and arena helpers who helped the show run smoothly.
