Finesse Gymnastics Club, Letterkenny, held their Gymstart floor awards in association with Gymnastics Ireland on Saturday 24th May.
After a week long wait they received their results on Saturday. All of the gymnasts received an award certificate ranging from level 3 to level 10, which is the highest award achievable.
Gymnastics Ireland introduced the Gymstart proficiency awards programme as a progressive, inclusive, award scheme for young gymnasts which also includes coaching courses and workshops for gymnasts that wish to stay in the sport after they have finished competing. The Gymstart programme contains 10 progressive levels of gymnastic skills ranging from level one where the gymnast performs basic skills such as a straddle or pike sit, up to level 10 where they will have to execute advanced skills like an unsupported back flip. At each level the gymnast must demonstrate 10 skills and when a gymnast executes 7 skills to a perfect standard they progress to the next level. The gymnast is then awarded with a certificate for all their hard work.
The Gymstart programme is the ideal programme for all gymnastics clubs to give their gymnasts the skills they need to progress within their sport. This is the perfect reward for the gymnasts after training so hard all year. The Finesse Gymnastics Display Team will be in Dublin in a few weeks time to participate in the Dublin Fleadh, an event where display teams from across Great Britain and Ireland showcase their routines, this is held at the UCD complex, and then a week later they fly out to Italy to represent Ireland at the Festival Del Sole. We wish the team good luck.
