Congratulations to Caolán Irwin of Kilmacrennan who was awarded the title of Ulster Champion in 125cc GP Newcomers Short circuit Championship at La Mon Hotel on Saturday night.

Caolán has had a truly phenomenal year winning the Ulster Championship.

Earlier in the season he was selected for the Red Bull Rookies selection event in Spain were he, as the only novice rider, also became the only Irish rider selected through to the final stages of the competition.

When asked the ever modest teen said he was thrilled with his results this year and was grateful for the opportunities that he has had. When asked what were his plans for 2015 Caolán said that he has a new challenge to look forward to. Caolán has been approached by multiple UK based teams for the 2015 season. Glen Irwin a front runner in the BSB 600cc class is keen to help Caolán and offered him a 650cc bike to ride in the Ulster and Irish Championship.

He plans to race in UK next year; he has selected and is to sign for a new team, details to be announced at the Belfast show in february.

“I love two stroke racing. it suits my size and style , but unfortunately in Ireland two strokes are dying out.

“In our National Championship there were only two bikes that did every round and I missed three of them due to changing my bike mid season.”

Caolán is also the Irish Adelaide Masters Champion 125cc GP class and will receive his award later in the year.

Caolán would like to thank James Gallagher of Oasis bar Letterkenny and Cllr John O’Donnell Kilmacrennan for their continued support throughout the year.
