The 2014/15 Co. Donegal Mens Div. 1. League, hosted in the C.P.I. Centre, Castlefin, sponsored by Fleming Steel, concluded with a nail-biting finish on 30th March, as Liverpool Legend, captained by David Magee, won the highest Co. Donegal Mens title by just 1 game.
Four teams, made up of the top mens grade badminton players in the county, had battled since October 2014 as the race for
the title had still not been concluded by last night of play on Mon. 30th. March. Liverpool Legends, captained by David Magee, Red Devils, captained by Ian Macbeth, were tied on 12 pts. each, David Magee`s team leading by just 1 game Invincible Gunners, captain, Alan Macbeth and were just one behind on 11 pts. as Blue Lions, captained by Ryan
Macbeth, had been struggling to get players, were very close to winning the woode spoon on 5 pts.
The first match of the night saw Invincible Gunners and Blue Lions tie on 2 sets, Alan`s bid to win the title had ended while Ryan still managed to take the wooden spoon home with him.
The match of the night was Liverpool Legends v Red Devils.
1+2 Ian Macbeth and Evin Henderson won the 1st. pt. of the game beating David Magee and Glen Duncan 21 /18, 21 / 18.
2+4.David Magee`s team hit back as Mark McLucas and Wesley Knox beat Mark Laird and Martin Mooney 21 / 13, 21 / 12.
1+3. Ian Macbeth and Mark Laird put in a very big effort holding of the challenge of David Magee and Mark McLucas winning the 2nd. pt. for Red Devils, 15 / 21, 21 / 16, 21 / 16.
2 + 4 mens was the decisive set of the match, Glen Duncan and Wesley Knox just about took the 1 st. game 21 / 18.
In the 2 game Evin Henderson and Martin Mooney won 24 / 22 to tie the set and the match as the all important 3rd. game got under way. Evin and Martin took an early lead, in what was never more than a 2 ace game, however a big effort by Glen and Wesley came in with a 22 / 20 win. Excellent match, excellent League.
