Last Sunday saw an exciting finish to the Final of the Winter Showjumping League at Deane’s Equestrian Centre as riders and horses were all cleaned and polished for the final day of jumping.

It was all to play for in the champion rider competitions with several riders all in contention to win the trophies. In the Junior Champion Rider Competition 3 riders were tied on a maximum of 60 points Lauren Bradley, Hannah Maria Slater and Patrick Hunter while in the Senior Champion Rider there were 2 riders on 60 points Lucy Stewart and Mona Vial with a third rider Kirsten Rice only 5 points behind. With the weather being poor on the day all riders were being timed on their second rounds to decide class places on the day.

The starter stakes saw Kayla Curran and Dean Burgess both jump clear and picked up prizes for their all their clear rounds. In the 40cm class Zoe Boyle on Dancer once again jumped clear much to the delight of her dad. While Ally McClay on Meenarillagh jumped her best round to date in the 50cm class and picked up another clear round rosette.

The 60cm class saw the competition beginning in earnest with several riders in contention for the Junior Champion Rider. Lauren Bradley was first up to jump in the competition on Jayzee as she was riding two ponies and her first round was clear, now she had to set a good time to win the class. However she was too quick off the mark and Jayzee ducked out of the first jump but she set a respectable time of 51.94sec to take 3rd place.

Hannah Marie Slater on Tilly was next into the ring she was also in contention for the Junior Champion Rider and she rode a clear first round and set off against the clock and was going well up to jump number 6 where a bad line to the fence resulted in a duck out knocking her out of contention but her time was good enough for 4th place in the class. Mona Vial on Roddy jumped clear in both rounds and set a good time of 45.38secs to take 2nd place in the class.

Lauren Bradley was in action again on Emmett and was determined to win the class, she jumped a great first round and set off against the clock in blistering speed. No mistakes this time and she came home in a time of 36.53secs to claim 1st place.

The 70cm class saw Mona Vial on Roddy ride a fantastic round and set a time of 42.93secs which no one could match in the class to take 1st place she also took her total to 70 points in the Senior Champion Rider the other riders would have to be perfect to catch her.

Katie Long on Alistair was clear in the first round and gave Mona a good race to the finish and set a very good time of 43.92secs only one second behind good enough for 2nd place. Dara McLoone on Lady rode a good clear round and set a time of 66.05secs to claim 3rd place. The other riders all picked up faults one of those being Lucy Stewart on Dedo who had been in contention with Mona Vial for the Senior Champion Rider but an uncharacteristic mistake meant that she could not catch Mona. Ella Clancy also picked up a clear round rosette for her great round on Pockets.

The 80cm class had several riders going clear in the first round and fighting for places in the class. But it was Patrick Hunter on Lady who was cream of the crop with one of the quickest times of the day 33.37secs and taking first place in the class. This clear round also gave Patrick the maximum of 70 points for the Junior Champion Rider a score which could not be caught. Once again Katie Long on Alistair rode a great round in a time of 37.53secs to take 2nd place in the class as usual Alistair was bouncing on the spot and eager to go but Katie was sitting still and making it look easy. Lucy Stewart made up for her earlier mistake in the previous class and rode a great round and in a time of 41.04secs to take 3rd place. Amy Hill on Pockets jumped a lovely double clear round to picke up a well deserved clear round rosette.

The 90cm class had Patrick Hunter on Lady once again doing the business as he set the quickest time of the day of 31.37secs which could not be caught and giving him 1st place fro the class. Kirsten Rice on Rambo set a very respectable time of 49.87secs to take 2nd place in the class. Lauren Bradley was in action again riding Lacey and despite having some faults she set a very good time of 48.17sec for the big horse. Marie Molloy was back in action with her mare Dewy and she jumped a super clear round much to her delight.

The 1m class saw Patrick Hunter on Lady and Marie Molloy on Dewy competing for clear round rosettes and both riders jumped fantastic rounds and
