Finn Valley College win Séan Ó Longáin Cup
Presentation of Corn Sheáin Uí Longáin Comortás Foirne 2014 (6th Outing - 11th October 2014) took place on Saturday the 8th of November. A huge thanks to Mr Séan Ó Longáin and his wife Eileen who attended to present the Cup. Our thanks must also go to The Beach Hotel, Downings who provided an excellent venue and a fantastic meal for our Society at such short notice.

The winners were the Finn Valley College Team of Rory White, Paddy McDaid and Seamus Clerkin with a fantastic score of 97. This is the fourth time since its inception in 2009 that Finn Valley have won the competition.

Runners-up were the Abbey VS Team (B) of Oliver Plunkett, Sean Boyle and Christopher Hegarty with a score of 93. Third Place were the Abbey VS Team (A) of Miriam Bennett, Celine Markey and Pauric O’Donnell with a score of 86.

Other prizes on the day were:

Nearest the Pin: 7th & 16th Holes both won by Miriam Bennett

Longest Drives: 4th Hole - John Bosco Gallagher, 18th Hole - Eanna Ó Mainin

Individual scores towards Golfer of the Year were as follows;

1st Rory White 42pts, 2nd Seamus Clerkin 40pts, 3rd Sean Boyle 37pts(b.o.t.), 4th Oliver Plunkett 37pts(b.o.t.), 5th Celine Markey 37pts,6th Jim McGlynn 36pts, 7th Miriam Bennett 35pts(b.o.t.), 8th Christopher Hegarty 35pts, 9th John Bosco Gallagher 34pts and 10th PJ McGowan 33pts.

ETB OUTING

The presentation of the 7th Donegal ETB Golf Society Outing in Rosapenna GC also took place on the 8th of November. The Outing took place on the Old Tom Morris Course in Rosapenna.

First Place on the day went to Society stalwart Jim McGlynn with a great score of 39pts. In Second Place was Deirdre O’Toole with a score of 37pts and Third Place went to Seamus Clerkin with 35pts(b.o.t.). Michael McGrath claimed 4th Place with 35pts and 5th Place went to Eanna ÓMainin with 33pts.

The remainder of the top ten places were, 6th Sean Boyle 32pts(b.o.t.), 7th Celine Markey 32pts, 8th PJ McGowan 31pts, 9th Marcel McCafferty 30pts(b.o.t.) and 10th went to Rory White 30pts.

The Category 4 prize on the day went to Marcel McCafferty.

With all the scores tallied the standings in the Golfer of the Year Table after 7 Outings are:

3rd Seamus Clerkin 98

4th Sean Boyle 81

The Signature Hole Competition continued and the top 5 places are;

With the final outing, our President’s Prize (Joanne Irwin, Chairperson, Donegal ETB), to be held on Friday, 2nd of January 2015 in Bundoran GC, there will be stiff competition for the top places in each with the scores so close.
