The County finals took place in Milford last Sunday with hundreds of children from the different areas competing for a place at the National finals in Athlone on the 22-24th August. The day was blessed with glorious sunshine as the huge crowd assembled to watch the event commence with the cycling and then the ever challenging athletics.

The County finals took place in Milford last Sunday with hundreds of children from the different areas competing for a place at the National finals in Athlone on the 22-24th August. The day was blessed with glorious sunshine as the huge crowd assembled to watch the event commence with the cycling and then the ever challenging athletics.

A good number of athletes competed for their last time in Community Games, to name a few, Arlene Crossan Letterkenny, who won her first gold in the U-8s will compete in the the u16 Relay and Triple Jump; Dillon Kearns, Killybegs; Mark Irwin, Ramelton; Christopher Gallagher, Milford and Michael Gallagher, Fanad..

In the Cycling events the Duathlon winners were Boys u15, 1st PJ Doogan,Cloughaneely, Girls u15, 1st Shauna McFadden, Letterkenny. Cycling on grass winners, Boys u12, 1st Odhran Duggan, Cloughaneely, Boys u14, 1st Ben Carr, Letterkenny.

Great credit must go to the co-ordinator Cathal Hagan and his Milford committee for hosting the event. A great tribute must be paid to the huge number of volunteers who give so much of their free time in preparing the children for the different events.
