One of Ireland’s top Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors paid a visit to Letterkenny recently to host a seminar on aspects of the popular martial art.

World bronze and silver medallist, Chris Bowe, who runs the Garcie Barra club in Dublin was a guest of the Rilion Gracie Academy in Oldtown, Letterkenny.

Jiu Jitsu practitioners from all over Donegal and Derry travelled to attend the first seminar the decorated competitor gave in the county.

Originally from Waterford Bowe is a full-time PE teacher and a black belt under famed Brazilian four-time world champion Braulio Estima, now based in Birmingham, England.

During the high tempo two hour seminar he worked on a range of techniques that could be utilised in competition or for self-defence and explained some of the finer points of the moves in great detail.

Speaking after the event he said “I think the place is great. I’m jealous of the mat space. It is really clean and tidy and professional looking,” he stated.

A former rugby player, his first competition was the British open in 2009 where he won double gold in the blue belt division and has since gone on to medal in numerous events.
