There was a large turn out for week 2 of the Winter League at Deane’s Equestrian Centre, Bruckless on Sunday despite the heavy rain.

First to start the day was Nuala O’Donnell riding Tilly in the Starter Stakes, it was Tilly’s first competition but Nuala took it nice and steady to get her around the course. Phoebe North was next up on Pumkin and got a lovely clear round.

In the 50cm Class our new jockeys from Ballyshannon and Ballybofey all performed well and picked up clear round rosettes for their troubles with Anna McGuinness and Caoimhe Sheerin having some lovely jumps on Joey.

In the 60cm Class mother and daughter combination Brenda and Louise Burke both picked up clear round rosettes. Amy Hill was back in action on Ravdon to get her second clear round rosette of the day.

The 70cm Class was the largest of the day with a total of 18 entries and over half the class picked up a clear round rosette. Local rider Lauren Bradley did well to stay on board her horse Summer as she got a massive leap over fence six and lost her stirrup but still managed to go clear. Conal Watters picked up his first clear round rossete on Colleen with a lovely round. Not to be out done Brenda, Louise and Niamh Burke all went clear with some great jumps.

The 80cm Class saw several riders pick up a second clear round rosette for the day with Clodagh Brady on Hailey’s Comet having a lovely round. Lucy Stewart on Dedo had an uncharacteristic run out on fence number 2. While Tierney Gallagher had to work hard to get Choc Chip Dream around the course but unfortunately didn’t go clear.

In the 90 cm Class the competition was between Katie North and Shane Harley with both producing some very nice jumping to go clear. In the 1m Class they were joined by Ruth Stack and Tyler Hill but this time Katie North on All That Jazz had an unlucky pole down. Ruth Stack was the only rider to go clear in the 1.10m class with a great display of riding.

The league runs each Sunday till final on 23rd Feb. Same Horse and same rider must compete in 4 out of the first 7 Competition Days to qualify for the Final. On the final day riders will compete for each Class 1st, 2nd, 3rd

The scores collected over the 8 weeks on the League Table will decide the Junior Champion (17 & under) , Senior Champion (18 & over), Riding Club member Champion Cup
