Donegal ladies finished their regular season with wins over both Letterkenny Sides to go through to the League final undefeated for the 5th year in-a-row.
Letterkenny Blaze 45
Donegal Town 64
These 2 sides met earlier in the league and a close game ensued and the same was to unfold here in the first half. 12-11 to Blaze after the first with Denise Bourne and Lynda McGuinness showing well fro the hosts. Donegal just shaded the 2nd to go in 27-26 at half time. The third saw Donegal pull away and double Blaze’s score with a 16-8 quarter with Julianne Murphy pulling the strings and Maeve Liston really playing well.
A similar pattern in the last saw the same two players dominate for Donegal Town to go and win the quarter 21-11 and a great away win for our girls. Maeve Liston was MVP with a terrific display of steals and finishing as she hit 22 points while Julianne Murphy alos had a big game. Lynda McGuinness was Blaze’s top performer

Donegal hosted LYIT on Friday night in a resheduled game in the Abbey Vocational School. With an u12 Girls game on before hand meant a lot of extra support for the home team. The opening quarter was a tame enough affair as both teams struggled to find the basket but baskets from tara Khan 4pts, Julianne Murphy 3pts and Charlene Mc Hugh 4 pts got Donegal going while replies from Denise O’Brien, Mary Kelly and Eva Harser left the end of the quarter 11-6 in foavour of the hosts.
A better second quarter saw the hosts take control of things with Maeve Liston and Claudia Couglin both hitting nice scores to edge ahaed while O Brien and Kelly did most to keep their team in the game. The 2nd half saw the home team find their rhythm and really go at the LYIT defense with Tara Khan showing her class as she scored and amazing 12 in a row and 17 points in all in the quarter in a fantastic display of speed and finishing.
LYIT didn’t lie down as Mary Kelly went on her own run hitting 9 points in the quarter with some excellent baskets. The end of the third and Donegal Town led 54 - 32 and pretty much home and hosed. LYIT responded well as Siobhan Mc Causeland sank 2 lovely 3 pointers but the LYIT challenge faded as the young legs of Donegal finished off with a 25-12 quarter and end the league undefeated again. Well done to all the girls on a great league campaign. Kate Keaney was terrific at point guard with solid games from Julianne, Rosa, Caroline, Charlene, Brid while youngsters Ruta, Michaela (terrific defense), Maeve and Claudia were in great form too.
Special mention has to go to our own Kate Keaney as she picked up an All-Ireland medal with her college UL in a great Final last week and Kate finished a great week by picking up an All Star at no 6 too. A great honor for a great girl. Kate despite being on the County gaelic team - the UL team, working in Dublin and games all over the country still manage to get back and play for her local club which is much appreciated by all at the club as that takes huge dedication. For all the young players out there what an example to follow. Well done Kate from all at the club.
MVP goes to Tara Khan for her wonderful finishing tonight as Julianne, Kate, Brid and Charlene deserve special mention too, Final is on Saturday the 12th venue unknown yet.

Friday evening saw the club host Bruckless B.C. in a friendly against our u12 girls. It was a great game with some nice scores with Donegal’s Sophie Carr being the stand out player but coaches Brid Murphy and Charlene Mc Hugh can be pleased as they have developed a nice wee team as for Bruckless they showed great spirit being down at half time to fight back and win the 2nd half and give their Hosts a good game. Well done to both teams.
