Gerry Davenport welcomed all the delegates to the Community Games 43rd AGM in the Hotel Westport at the weekend.
In his address he stated that the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee had made good progress in achieving the targets set out in the document but there still was a lot more work to do.
“We have a responsibility to deliver on our objectives that enhances public trust and support for Community Games.” This year he said would see the finals being held over two weekends in August stating that with no May weekend competitions now, volunteers will get a well deserved break from what had become an almost all year round commitment.
A number of motions were discussed and Donegal were successful in retaining the U-16 Table Tennis event. The President said that since 1968 the Community Games has made an enormous contribution to the social and cultural aspects of society. “We have been a leading light in the development of thousands of children by providing them with a chance to participate in sport, culture and fun. We have built a good reputation and I hope the decisions we make at this year’s AGM will continue to enhance this hard won respect.
