After eight weeks of tough competition the champions have been crowned at Deanes Equestrian Centre.

The final day of competition decided the individual class winners and champion riders.

The 40 and 50cm classses saw Lily Wilcox, Sean and Katana Browne, Nuala O’Donnell and Siofra Hughes all go clear and pick up clear round rosettes and prizes with some great jumping.

The 60cm class was the first class of the day to be decided by a timed jump off. First to try her luck was Hannah Marie Slater on Ronin she had a plan but unfortunately couldn’t make one of the tight turns and picked up 4 faults but finished in a very quick time.

Next up was Chloe Mullin on Benson she was determined to go clear and had a steady round and set a mark of 52.68 secs as the time to beat. Anna McGuinness on Joey was next in the arena she was clear but unfortunately her time was slower. Louise Burke on Brady Buster took the same short cuts as Hannah Marie and went clear in a time of 45.02 secs to take the lead. Last to go was Dara Beth McLoone on Boomerang but she could only record at time of 51.28 secs. So first place went to Louise Burke, 2nd Dara Beth McLoone and 3rd to Chloe Mullins.

The 70 cm class was the largest class of the day and had the most riders qualifing for places. The first four rider in the class all made mistakes so the pressure was on Hannah Marie Slater and Ronin to go clear and record a good time. She already had a practice round in the 60 cm course and wouldn’t make the same mistake as before. She set off at a blistering pace and recorded the fastest time of the day of 40.57secs.

The next few riders all gave it a go but picked up faults in their attempts to get close to Hannah Marie. Niamh Burke on Riley was next in but couldn’t get all the short cuts and finished with a time of 45.99 secs. Louise Burke on Brady had another chance to win a class and again set a good time of 45.40 sec but no one could match Hannah Marie. It finished 1st place Hannah Marie Slater, 2nd to Louise Burke and 3rd to Niamh Burke.

The 80 cm class saw only three riders go clear and record a fast time. Niamh Burke on Riley set a good time of 45.85 to take 1st place. Jason Deward on Nora in his first jump off set a time of 50.22 secs and took 2nd place which was very quick considering he was on a big horse and Dara Beth McLoone on Boomerang set a time of 56.28 and 3rd place.

The 90cm class was very close and Charlie Vial on Nacho claimed 1st place with a time of 57.46 secs. Lucy Stewart on Dedo made up for earlier mistakes to take 2nd place with a time of 62.86. Marie Molloy on Cailin had a quick time of 53.03 secs but picked up a few faults for 3rd place.

The overall Junior Champion Rider was claimed by Louise Burke on Brady with yet another clear round to complete a perfect sweep for the 8 weeks. The Senior Champion Rider was won by Lucy Stewart on the spotless Dedo who couldn’t be caught after todays competition. The leading Riding Club Member was won by Brenda Burke on Bonnie Mismatch.

Many thanks to all our helpers ground staff and judges during the competition and a special thanks to Sarah Taggart Equine Denitistry who kindly sponsored prizes for 1st place and the Champion Riders.
