Letterkenny Rugby Club have pencilled in a date for a novel fundraiser that will benefit the club and the Good and New Cancer Bus.

On Saturday, April 12, there will be a sponsored Car Push from Mountcharles to Letterkenny in association with Kelly’s Toyota.

There will be 25 senior players taking part over the course of the day and they will be pushing the car in teams of four.

The cancer bus will be travelling behind carrying the rest of the players from the club.

The Good and New cancer patient bus makes three round trips to Galway each week.

It is an invaluable service for people undergoing severe treatment.

The Good and New charity needs €50,000 per year to maintain this bus service. While the charity has a Good and New shop, this accounts for only a small amount of the required funds. The rest is made up from private fundraising and donations.

“We’re trying to get a few local celebrities to welcome the lads home in the clubhouse on Saturday night,” said club treasurer Conor Lawless.

“It would be great to get a crowd to the start at Toyota Mountcharles or to the finish at the Rugby Clubhouse in the Glebe.”

The schedule for the day is as follows:

8.15am - 9.00am: Meet at Kelly’s Toyota, Mountcharles

9.00am - 12.00 noon: Stage 1: (Break at Biddys O’Barnes)

12.15pm - 3.15pm: Stage 2: (Break in Stranorlar)

3.30pm - 6.30pm: Stage 3: Stranorlar to Letterkenny

7.00pm: Finish at Letterkenny Rugby Club, Glebe, Letterkenny, with refreshments at Club House.
