Letterkenny cyclist Philip Deignan will miss the Road World Championships in Italy having fractured his collarbone at the Tour of Britain on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old had been selected alongside Nicolas Roche and Dan Martin on the four-man Irish team for the event in Tuscany on Sunday, September 29.
Deignan has penned a two-year deal to join Team Sky after a successful second season with the UnitedHealthcare squad. This season has seen him win the Tour of the Gila, finish runner-up at the Tour de Beauce, and claim top-10 finishes at both the Tours of Utah, California and the USA Pro Challenge.
Deignan will undergo surgery on his injury in Manchester this morning, Thursday.
