Nine of Errigal Cycling Clubs Youths travelled all the way to Enniscorthy at the weekend and returned with three titles and 24 medals between them.
This was an amazing performance from a group of kids who really have dominated the Irish Youth Cycling scene this year.
Ciara Doogan from Gorthork fulfilled a lifetime’s ambition by winning the Irish National Road Race Championships.
Following on from her silver medal winning performance in the morning time trial, Ciara dominated the afternoon’s road race.
She also took bronze on the final day’s criterium, whilst her team mate Amy Harkin rode well all weekend to finish sixth overall.
In the U-16 boys Ciaran Harkin continued his recent good form with a great rides in all three events.
Also taking a National Title was Shauna McFadden from Letterkenny. She won the gold medal in the criterium and a silver in the road race to finish second overall for the weekend in the girls U-14 Category, with team mate Orla Harkin finishing in fifth overall.
In the U-13s, Errigals’ team of PJ Doogan, Conor Halvey and Michael McGlynn won the gold medal for the team event whilst individually PJ finished second overall. Conor Halvey finished fourth overall.
Michael deserves praise for remounting his bike following a crash in the road race to complete the race.
In the U-12 Category Dylan Traynor from Crolly finished fifth overall, picking up a couple of medals in the road race and criterium.
Other Donegal youths deserving of a mention for their performances are Roisin Carter U-14 (Inishowen), Evan Donoghue U-16 (Letterkenny) and Ciaran McFadden U-15 (Gortahork), who finished fifth, sixth and eighth overall respectively.
The youth cycling season has now finished on a high and Errigal’s kids have had a magnificent year.
