Raphoe took on premier league leaders Banbridge on Saturday missing four players from the previous week .
Banbridge walked all over Raphoe in the opening stages winning 3 penalty corners in the opening minutes, the third of which found the top corner, a ferocious drag flick from Steven Dowds despite the best efforts from Raphoe keeper Jonny Rankin.
Gavin Lecky produced Raphoe’s first chance of the game, a cross from the right by George Patterson was initially defended but Lecky pounced on the rebound to agonise send it inches wide.
With Raphoe getting a little more confident going forward, they left a few gaps at the back and Banbridge managed to counter attack and win their fourth penalty corner, again Dowds making no mistake and firing into the roof of the net.
Up the other end Lee Coll won a penalty corner for Raphoe but Simon Goudie’s drag flick was well saved by Banbridge keeper.
Just before half time Banbridge put the game to bed with yet another drag flick from a penalty corner. Dowds the man again to complete his hatrick. The half ended 0-3.
Raphoe worked tirelessly in the second half and managed to stop Banbridge from scoring with some great work from forwards Gavin Lecky and Lee Coll.
They had one effort but Rankin superbly saved Dowds drag flick with the rebound falling to Magee whose shot was expertly saved off the line by Alan Meehan. With Banbridge caught up the pitch, Raphoe’s midfield of Ian McGonigle, Paul Stewart, George Patterson and Lee Stewart drove up the pitch with some authority bringing forward John Watt into play whose square ball set up Lecky to score but for a marvellous stop by the on form keeper, Lennox.
Raphoe will take a lot of positives from the game and head into Friday night’s home game with Mossley with great confidence. Man of the Match was Gavin Lecky - Team: J.Rankin, R.Bates, W.Kilpatrick, A.Meehan, S.Goudie, G.Patterson, I.McGonigle, L.Stewart, P.Stewart, G.Lecky, L.Coll, J.Watt
