Ruaidhri McGee’s 74 at the PGA Catalunya Resort in Spain was enough for him to make the cut at the fourth round of the final qualifying stage for a European Tour card on Wednesday afternoon.
However, with the Rosapenna Golf Club member currently tied for 62nd place overall with only the top 25 and ties getting a card, a place on the European Tour next year looks unlikely.
McGee, 22, is the grandson of former Highland Radio GAA correspondent Michael, who is from Downings, and the son of Mick and Miora.
McGee shot a sublime four-under 66 around the Tour course, including seven birdies, to leave him on six-under-par for the tournament and in a share of eighth position on Monday.
However, McGee has since slid down the field to two-under in the six-round competition after carding a two-over par 72 on Tuesday and then that 74 yesterday.
That meant McGee made the cut by a single stroke.
McGee is now 12 shots off the leader, who is Carlos Del Moral of Spain, who shot an amazing 63 on Wednesday.
