Raphoe lose on road to
Annadale

Raphoe Men’s 1st team travelled to Lough Moss in Carryduff on Saturday to play a strong Annadale side. The result ended 4-1 in favour of Annadale although the scoreline was overshadowed a little for the second week in a row after another bad injury. Annadale player Willy Edgar suffering a bad injury to his hand, we are glad to hear after two sessions of surgery he is on the mend, Raphoe Hockey Club would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

Raphoe started the game terrible, finding themselves 2 nil down after only 5 minutes.

Raphoe did get to grips with the game after this, George Patterson, Ian McGonigle & Richard Patterson offering some good attacking options, pushing Annadale back, Gavin Lecky won a penalty corner for the Raphoe men. With Matthew Lecky out injured, Simon Goudie stepped in to the penalty corner routine and made no mistake in firing his drag flick into the roof of the Annadale net. 2-1.

Raphoe pushed for an equaliser and did manage to find the net, Richard Patterson squaring the ball to Ian McGonigle who deflected it to Lee Coll who touched in at the back post, unfortunately the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build up to the goal. Raphoe fell further behind

Raphoe came close on pulling a goal back With Richard Patterson finding Jonny Long who’s shot was well saved, the rebound fell to Lee Stewart who thought he had scored but the umpire awarded a free to Annadale for an alleged foul by Stewart. Raphoe’s second disallowed goal of the game. Raphoe where more than a match for Annadale for the remainder of this half but were hampered slightly when a 3rd Raphoe player to received their marching orders, Ian McGonigle this time being sin binned for a bad tackle, although unlucky not to have been awarded a free himself seconds before this.

Raphoe entertain Fingal, next Saturday in the Irish Senior Cup at 2.30pm.
