Raphoe’s Chloe Magee fell at the semi-final stage in her search to win the Carlton Irish Badminton Open for the first time.
The two-time Olympian went down against American Beiwen Zhang 21-12, 21-4 on Friday at Baldoyle. The 25-year-old Irish No 1 made the last four after defeating France’s Vignes Warren 17-21, 21-15, 21-18. Beforehand Magee beat Russia’s Evgeniya Kosetskaya 21-14, 19-21, 21-14 and England’s Georgina Bland 21-16, 21-13. Zhang went onto win the final 21-9, 17-21, 21-10 against Spain’s Beatriz Corrales.
In the mixed doubles, Magee and her brother Sam lost to Holland’s Jacco Arends and Selena Piek 16-21, 15-21 in the quarter-finals .
