Winter League reaching closing stages at Deane’s

It was another great day’s jumping at Deane’s Equestrian Centre last Sunday as the rain held off and the sun made a very brief appearance. The riders were out in force to improve their points total and stake their claim for the Senior and Junior Champion Cups. Amy McGarvey on her horse Across the Border and Louise Burke on Brady Buster are both tied on 60pts closely followed by Lauren Bradley on Tango with 55pts. There are several riders on 50pts and all it would take is a clear round and a mistake from the leaders to draw level.

In the Senior Champion Cup its Brenda Burke on Gibson in the lead with 60pts, followed closely by Clodagh Brady on Across the Border on 55pts and last year’s winner Cyndi Graham on Buzz and Hannah McNelis on Ginger Nut who are on 50pts. Again there are several riders in the chasing pack and one little mistake could give them a chance.

This week’s course flowed well and faults were spread throughout the course. Many people were nervous of the last fence ‘The Wall’ but it caused very few problems. Joe Melly jumped a super round on Harvey. Once again Cassandra McGee on Liath and Bridin Walsh on Ms Tizzy Lizzy picked up several clear round rosettes in the 60, 70, 80 and 90cm classes to keep in touch with the leading riders. Tara Ward on George jumped a super round to pick up a clear round rosette in the 70cms class. Dara Beth McCloone jumped in her first 70cm class but unfortunately picked up faults in her first round but went clear in her second.

The showjumping league continues for 2 more weeks, the final is planned for Sunday the 26th February. Horse and Rider must have competed in five weeks before the final to be eligible for prizes.
