There was a Letterkenny double at today’s Cara Bundoran 10-mile Challenge with Patrick Brennan and Caitriona Jennings taking the men’s and women’s prizes.

Letterkenny AC member Brennan, a native of Drumcliffe, Co Sligo, went one better than last year when he won the event this morning, while Jennings, who is from the Cathedral Town and runs out of Rathfarnham in Dublin, won the women’s. Brennan ran 54:17 to finish in front of City of Derry’s Gary Slevin, who had 56:58, while Brendan Crossan was third in 57:32. In the women’s, Jennings, who win the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin last June, was first woma and fourth overall, with 57:34. Breege Connolly from Tullaghan, Co Leitrim, who repesents North Belfast Harriers, won the event 12 months ago but had to be content with second place in a time of 58:02 and Fiona Roche from Raheny Shamrocks was third in 59:10. In all, over 800 took part.

“It was excellent,” said Eamon Harvey of the race organisers Tir Chonaill Athletic Club. “The weather was great, it was well organised and we had a great entry of over 800, compared with the 500 last year.”

The main reason for the Cara Bundoran 10-mile Challenge are the charities. Submissions were sought from local and national charities and The Irish Heart Foundation and the Barrettstown Gang Camp have been selected from the huge response they received.
