Firstly, a very big thank you to the Lady Captain Noreen, Captain Michael, and organisers, Declan Gillespie and Jimmy O Donnell, for making the Dinner Dance the great night it was, at very short notice.

Secondly, the night got the perfect start with an excellent meal at Caislean Oir, Annagry. The meal, the service, and the comfort was second to none.

A very sincere and deserved thank you to Anita, Joe, and James for a very enjoyable night in Annagry.

The society would like to extend a word of thanks to everyone who helped out in any way at last Thursday night’s special Mass for the late Veronica McCarthy Moore. Veronica, a founding member of our society, passed away suddenly before Christmas.

Our members organised a Mass in St. Eunan’s Cathedral at which Veronica’s husband David was joined by family members, many friends and well-wishers to mark the sad death of a dear person.

Special thanks are extended to Fr. Eamonn Kelly Adm and Fr. Philip Daly as well as soloist, Carmel O’Reilly and organist, Derek Fleming.

Narin and Portnoo

Congratulations to John Quinn on winning Golfer of the Year 2011 with a victory over 7 handicapper Sean Hanrahan in blustery conditions last week. This most sought after prize involves qualifying from the monthly medal stroke competitions and then with the eight medal winners playing knock out matchplay. All types of weather and conditions during the year were encountered and the 13 handicapper from Narin proved he is a man for all seasons with this win over the Ulster Cup captain.

While the veterans were battling it out for Golfer of the Year it was an young up and coming member from Glenties that took the honours in the Dr Mc Closkey final which is our premier match play competition in the club. Stephen Mc Hugh playing off 17 got the better of PJ Gallagher playing off 10 in a final that went all the way. The coaching that Stephen has got from father Dermot has been used to good use and no doubt many more trophies will come to Tullyhoniver.

Eamonn Mc Gill was the winner of Fridays senior competition on 32 points with Tony Bonner in second place on 31.

This Saturday we have the Captains’ Drive in with draw for partners at 10am and it hoped that a good turn out will see Pat Connaghan and Nora Shovlin get their year under way. Fixtures. Friday 3rd.
