Tim McNulty is number one in Donegal and Donegal is number one with the Meath man.
After numerous attempts, a number of second placed finishes and after leading the rally at various times down the years, Tim McNulty finally cracked Donegal to win his first ever Topaz Donegal International Rally.
“This is the one I have always wanted to win. You can have your tarmac championship but Donegal is number one. I’d swap the tarmac championship for Donegal any time, for me it’s the top rally and the one to win,” said McNulty.
“I have been doing the rally for nine or ten years and in that time I came close on a couple of occasions and led the rally at various stages down the years. But to win it now is fantastic and a great feeling.
“Donegal is a great rally, well run and well organised and we had a fantastic three stages. We had a plan and we stuck to it and thankfully we came home first at least. There are those that would say it is about time, but it is a fantastic feeling.”
“Paul (Kiely) did a brilliant job on the notes. He is very experienced and knows his way around Donegal and it was a tremendous bonus to have him. The whole team worked very hard over the weekend and it was a real team effort.”
