Why not try out Gartan Lake Triathlon?

Letterkenny Triathlon club will be hosting its inaugural triathlon in the beautiful surroundings of Gartan Lake on the outskirts of Letterkenny in the village of Churchill on August 20.

Letterkenny Triathlon club will be hosting its inaugural triathlon in the beautiful surroundings of Gartan Lake on the outskirts of Letterkenny in the village of Churchill on August 20.

The event itself will be sprint distance on an accurately measured course beginning with a 750m swim in the calm and clear waters of Gartan Lake, which will be followed by a17 ½ km cycle on a fully marshalled out and back route on the main Letterkenny road from Churchill, and then finishing off with a 5km run along the waters edge in the grounds of Gartan. The event is sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland and will be fully marshalled on each section of the race by experienced and qualified officials and will also be a fully chipped and electronically timed event, allowing competitors to get a full breakdown of their times on each section of the race when complete.

The event is currently open for entries and will remain open until August 13, entry for the event is E50, for which you will receive race entry, swim hat, souvenir t-shirt as a reminder of you achievement as well as other goodies and refreshments after the race.

Note: For insurance reasons, if participants are not members of Triathlon Ireland, then they must obtain a 1 day race licence from Triathlon Ireland ahead of the race. The last date for obtaining the licence is Thursday 18th August and they are available on the Triathlon Ireland website. (www.triathlonireland.com). All participants must be 16 years of age on the 31st of December 2011.

Relay Option: If you feel you would like some moral support from friends or family in order to take part in the race, the option is available to enter a relay team into the race. For this option you will need a team of three individuals with each individual taking part in one discipline, either swim, bike or run. Same distances and rules apply as the individual race.

Note: As above, if team members are not Triathlon Ireland members then they are required to obtain a one day license.

The only difference is that only one-day licence is required per team. This promises to be an excellent day out for both competitors and spectators. Triathlon is fast becoming one of the most popular sports in the country which gives competitors a great sense of achievement accomplishment and comradeship upon completion.
