On Saturday last we had our Captains Drive-in. A large crowd gathered to see Lady Captain Alison Coughlan and Captain Donal Boyle get their year off to a flying start.The very popular pair at the golf club they showed with their drives that Cruit is in very safe hands. Alison went for accuracy, and Donal went for distance.
The drive-in was followed by a Scramble and presentation and everyone really enjoyed the day.

On Sunday it was back to serious golf and Charlie McCauley was in top form to shoot a fantastic 42pts. Very well done.

Quiz on Wednesday 27th January is in aid of the local Tennis Club.
The club competition on Sunday the 17th of January was won by John Boyce (9) with 39pts. The runner up was Michael Gallagher Jnr (7) with 36pts, the gross winner was Conor McMenamin (5) with 25 gross pts. Third place was Michael (M) McBride (17) with 35 pts bot.

The 2016 Captains Drive In will take place on Saturday the 6th of February. The format will be the same as previous years, a mixed four person scramble with a draw for partners made on the morning (10.30am sharp) followed by the Drive In at 10.45am and a shotgun start at 11.15am. Members are encouraged to register as early as possible on the morning.

Happy New Year and good golfing for 2016 to the ladies of Letterkenny Golf Club. The January calendar is a little bereft from a golfing perspective, so here are a few dates to put in your calendar.
Our very popular Bingo fund-raising event is on the Sunday 31st January. This is always a very enjoyable family event. Lots of prizes and great fun is promised.
The proposed date for the annual 'drive-in' is Sunday February 7th. On that date weather permitting, President Greg Sullivan, Capt Ivan Furey and Lady Captain Jackie Ireland will start our golfing year off in style. Times, and other details will be confirmed for both events.

Ladies are playing an ongoing 14 hole competition on Tuesday with re-entry any day and the usual 18 hole stableford on Saturday.
It was Hughie McBride who took the honors at the weekend with a super 43pts, Our Bar convenor piped big Michael Rodgers into second place with 42pts. Great shooting from the pair. Another Big man Emmet McGee shot a solid 40pts to take third place. The nines went to Con Friel with 22pts and Hugh McBride with 20pts. This week’s Category went to Stephen Ferry. CSS Sat 38pts and Sun 37pts

AGM - The AGM will take place on Friday, 5th February at 8pm.
It was another weekend of reasonably good weather at Dunfanaghy this weekend and there was plenty of golf throughout. Colin Higgs was narrowly beaten on BOT by Michael Kelly in the Monthly Medal Competition on Sunday the 17th of January. Well done for Michael for picking up another Monthly Medal Competition. In another closely fought competition John Chambers and Paul Smyth won the Saturday Open Four Ball Competition on the 16th of January narrowly beating Shane Scanlon and J.P Clarke on BOT. John and Paul, two of the Club’s biggest supporters birdied the last three holes to come out on top. Well done also to the other prize winners during the week.

Donegal Links Classic: Details of one of the biggest and one of the most eagerly awaited golfing events in the North West has just been announced. The Donegal Links Classic which is staged over three of Donegal’s most prestigious links golf courses Ballyliffen, Rosapenna and Portsalon golf courses. The Donegal Links Classic is scheduled to run over three days 30TH,31ST May and 1ST June 2016. The Donegal Links Classic is one of the longest running team events in the North West golfing calendar year. The format as in previous years is a team of four (gents or ladies). There is a host of prizes on offer daily team and individual prizes on each of the course on a daily basis and the overall prizes for the three days golfing. The Portsalon team will travel to Dunfanaghy on Saturday 23rd. This will be the team’s fourth match on this season’s event.

The Glencar Inn Golf Society, Letterkenny AGM was held last Monday night, with a very large crowd in attendance.
The outgoing captain Sean Gilroy,
thanked the committee for their time and patience with him as captain for 2015. He wished the new captain for 2016, Kenny Chambers, and his vice captain, Jimmy Gleeson, all the best for the coming season.
