Dunfanaghy Boxing Club’s short history is recalled in a new book with the simple title of Dunfanaghy Boxing Club - A Short History, which was launched in Dunfanaghy on Saturday night.
The new publication, penned by Gortahork based writer James Woods, was launched during the interval break in the club’s annual tournament in Ozanam House in Dunfanaghy on Saturday night.
The 37 years since the club was founded are crammed in the 76 pages in which the history is relayed through the voices of the men who were in from the start and those that have flown the Dunfanaghy flag with distinction down the years, both inside and outside the ring.
Men such as Mickey Durning, Neil Gallagher, John (William)Gallagher, Pat Robinson, Malcolm Park, Steve McIlhinny, Eddie Harkin, Tommy McGinley, Denis Harkin, Josie Gallagher, Josie ‘Jack Bán’ Gallagher, Michael McDermott, James McGee, Hughie Boyle, Charlie McKinley, Gerry Daly and Dr Lochlann McGill.
The publication also has a full roll of honour of titles the club has won at all levels down the years. The list is an impressive one.
The pages are sprinkled with a liberal number of old photos which will help to take the reader down memory lane.
At Saturday night’s launch James Woods presented long serving Dunfanaghy Boxing Club coach and the man widely known as Mr Dunfanaghy Boxing, Eddie Harkin, with the first copy of the book.
