Donegal Town chalked up another victory in the Northwest Basketball League with a hard fought ten point victory over Carrick-on-Shannon, on Saturday night in Donegal Town.
Donegal Town . . . . . . . 76
Carrick-on-Shannon . 66
Ryan Malley top scored for the winners in a highly competitive contest that reached boiling point early in the second quarter with a number of players from both sides getting involved in a bout of fisticuffs which held up play for a couple of minutes.
Both sides had two players ejected from the match - Donegal Town’s Jason Duignan and Dylan Kennedy and Carrick-on-Shannon’s Manrubus and Vjrrera playing no further part in the game.
Ryan Malley notched 28 points in a man of the match performance for Donegal. In all the winners had 11 different scorers.
The sides were level 24 each at the end of a high quality first quarter before the locals pulled away in the second quarter to lead 43 to 26 at half-time.
But Carrick stormed back into the game in the third quarter as the temperature went up a notch and there was only three points between them going into the final quarter.
It took some Malley magic in the final quarter to see Donegal pull away again to record their fourth win of the league campaign.
This was a cracking contest with Jordan Carty, Edward Begley, Brendan McCole, Conal Sweeney and Daire Quinn stepping up to the mark in a big way for the winners.
