This year’s Blas na hEireann, National Irish Food Awards, will be the biggest competition of quality Irish produce ever seen on the island of Ireland. Follow in the footsteps of top Donegal producers such as Different Dairy Company and Mulrines, by scooping the key prizes and gaining national recognition at the 2012 Awards.Producers such as Alan Cunningham of the Different Dairy Company have seen business increase due to the recognition they have received at the Blas Awards, which are considered to be the ultimate benchmark for quality produce for both retailers and shoppers alike.
Due to the increase in the numbers of entries year on year (last year over 1,300 products were judged), the competition will now include 40+ categories of food products; everything from chocolate to cheese, and biscuits to black pudding. New categories include beers and ciders, reflecting the growth in the number of excellent microbreweries cropping up all over the country.
“What our judges will be looking for is produce that is made using top quality Irish ingredients, lashings of tender loving care and of course talent! says Chairman of the Blas Awards, Artie Clifford. “It will have to have that something extra special to win over the tastebuds of our panel of judges. If you make a product that fulfils these criteria, then I would urge you to enter and get the recognition you deserve.
“It is very rewarding for us and our Award winners that the competition, now in its 5th year, is recognised at home and abroad as a symbol of a top quality product, enabling businesses to take on all new markets, be they local, regional, national or international, with total confidence” he added.
