Seven volunteers took to the streets last Friday night, sleeping rough in Market Square, Letterkenny in aid of the Simon Community.
One of the organisers, Grainne McGettigan said: “We were blessed with the night and the group of sleepers, Caroline Kuyper, Maeve McCrae, Tommy Brogan, Vincent O Donnell, Antony McCrae, James Carabin and Daniel Potter, have certainly raised an awareness of the Simon Community in Donegal by their selfless efforts and their fundraising.”
The Street Sleep and the daytime bucket collection in Letterkenny has to date raised €2,300 with some more sponsorship to come in. People can still support this event by contacting Grainne on 087 055 2478.
Grainne sends out a massive thank you to the volunteer sleepers, street collectors and the public for their support.
“Also a thank you to Elaine in Borderloo for sponsoring a portaloo for the night! To the Four Lanterns a big thank you for sponsoring much needed sustenance at the bewitching hour and to a couple of young people who arrived with tea and biscuits to help the hardy sleepers along.
“I would also like to thank the gentleman who provided parking for a couple of cars in his yard. And finally to The Brewery for their support.
“To one and all a big thank you. The North West Simon Community in Co. Donegal appreciates all the support received during our national fund raising week, from church gate collections, coffee morning and the street sleep.
“I hope that people will continue to support us by getting involved with fundraising events. My contact email is: email@example.com.”
