BreastCheck, the national breast screening service, are due this week to complete their first round of free breast screening, Donegal Action for Cancer Care has reported.
About 14,500 eligible women in Donegal between ages 50 and 64 have received a free mammogram through the service since it came to Donegal in 2009.
The BreastCheck mobile unit has been based in the car park of the council’s public services centre in Letterkenny and is due to finish this first round on Oct. 7th. DACC was among the campaigners who pushed for the service to come to Donegal and campaigned with Breastcheck last year for a second mobile unit to be placed in the county.
BreastCheck is a Government-funded screening service that is offered every two years to women aged between 50 and 64. BreastCheck encourages every woman in Donegal who receives an invitation for a mammogram to go for her appointment, and DACC encourage women aged 50-64 years to make sure they are registered with BreastCheck by phoning the Freephone number 1850 45 45 55 or visiting the web site www, breastcheck.ie
