There was a great night of celebration and community endeavour at the 31st Annual Cleaner Community Campaign awards in Letterkenny.
The event was hosted by Letterkenny Tidy Towns Committee and took place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Tuesday evening.
Special guest was Mayor of Letterkenny Councillor James ‘Pat’ McDaid who presented the awards.
There was fifteen category of awards to be handed out one the night.
The included the prestigious Jim McCormick award for the Young Environmentalist of the year for 2016, as well as the may McClintock award for the most wildlife friendly garden in the locality.
Other award up for grabs were the best shop front, best kept retail outlet, best kept public house, best kept restaurant/café or tearoom, best kept estate entrance, the best kept large garden as well as the best kept small garden in the district. There was also a school prize as well as an award for the endeavour in promoting tidiness.
Letterkenny was named Ireland’s Tidiest Town in 2015 in the annual Supervalu National Tidy Towns Awards competition.
It beat over 860 villages and towns across Ireland to become the eighth town in Donegal to win the award since the competition began in 1958.
It was also named as Ireland’s tidiest large urban centre.
