Surgery to save the badly damaged finger of Finn Harps captain, Kevin McHugh, has been unsuccessful, the star has revealed.

The prolific goal scorer suffered the horrendous injury in a freak accident during a training session on Wednesday night when his wedding caught on a fence.

He was taken to Galway for surgery. Last evening the Harps skipper player took to social media to reveal that his finger was too badly damaged to save completely.

In his post, he thanked everyone for their good wishes and explained the surgery was unsuccessful.

He stated via his Twitter account: “Op over. Unfortunately finger to badly damaged to repair properly. Thanks for all ur messages, can’t reply to all. Esp with 1 hand!  #Moveon”

The Harps man had previous Tweeted a picture of his badly severed finger as he made his way to hospital just after the freak accident occurred. At that stage he suggested the injury could rule him out for the rest of the season.
