The Four Masters Bridge in Kinlough, which has been closed since December, is due to re-open within the next few weeks, the Democrat can report while local councillor Justin Warnock thinks it may be as early as next week.
A visit to the bridge this week revealed that the extensive repair works are well advanced.
In response to our query to Donegal County Council, a spokesperson outlined the work being done. “The collapsed sections of the bridge have been rebuilt using only the finest and most skilful stone masons and original stone reclaimed from the river. The bridge is being strengthened at present to help prevent a future recurrence. General cleaning and repairs have also been undertaken.
“The bridge works should be completed in early September, however this is very much weather dependent, as high water levels within the Drowse river restricts work from both a practicality and safety perspective.”
The road will also re-open once the bridge works are finished.
