Donegal County Council has said it is preparing for a wider and more in-depth review of the county’s piers and slipways.
The council has also said that they have carried out an initial preliminary review with their own staff.
The council had announced in April of this year that they were carrying out a review of piers following the tragedy in March, when five members of one family died after their car got into difficulty on the slipway at Buncrana Pier and entered Lough Swilly. It is understood there was algae on the slipway at the time.
In a statement this week, the council said they have carried out an initial preliminary review with council staff, and are preparing tender documents for the wider review of Buncrana and more than 100 other piers and slipways around the county.
In announcing the review in April, council said, “As the details become known and are fully considered, the council will review them and determine if any specific measures need to be taken.
