No Senate seats for Blaney, Ó Ceallaigh, Campbell, McBride or Casey but MacLochlainn and Ó Domhnaill make it

A former Fianna Fáil TD has failed in his bid to be elected to Seanad Éireann.

Niall Blaney was hoping to secure a seat on the Industrial and Commercial panel.

Blaney was eliminated on the 27th count.

Derry born businessman, Peter Casey also failed to secure a seat on the same nine member panel. The Greencastle resident was eliminated on seventh count.

The former Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council (DCC), Councillor John Campbell from Mountcharles lost out on his bid for a seat on the Labour panel. He was eliminated on the fifth count.

Dr. Seosamh Ó Ceallaigh failed in his bid to secure a seat on the Cultural and Education panel as did Judge Sean McBride, from Greencastle.

Former Donegal TD, Pádraig MacLochlainn topped the poll to secure his seat on the Industrial and Commercial panel on the first count.

The Gortahork based Senator, Brian Ó Domhnaill retained his seat on the industrial panel.
