Scenes of jubilation as Fianna Fáil’s Charlie McConalogue exceeds the quota on the first count. the quota is set at 12,218, McConalogue polling 12,533 first preference votes.

McConalogue lifted shoulder high, Pearse Doherty, Sinn Féin is second with 10,300, followed closely by Fianna Fáil’s Pat the Cope Gallagher on 10,198 while Joe McHugh FG is 4th on 8,412 and the independent outgoing TD, Thomas Pringle sits in the fifth seat spot with 6,220 first preference votes.

Padraig MacLochlainn Sf is in sixth spot on 5,742.
