‘You are not indestructible’, priest tells mourners

The celebrant of a funeral Mass for a young 19-year-old man pleaded with the large congregation of grieving young people to realise that life was very fragile and that there was an onus on all of them to look out for each other and ensure that they all got home safely.

Fr. Adrian Gavigan, was speaking at the funeral mass on Friday of Christopher Kane, who tragically lost his life in an accident in Mountcharles just a mile away from the quiet cemetery where young Christopher was laid to rest.

He said, “I am not here to lecture but I don’t want another family devastated by yet another late night knock on the door bringing more tragic news to the loved ones left behind.

“We have seen the guards of honour here today - the best honour you can show Christopher is to look after each other, ensure you make it home at night and realise that you are not indestructible.”
