WiSAR Lab to host open week at LYIT

.

.

The WiSAR Lab at Letterkenny Institute of Technology will hold an open week at the end of this month and they have extended an open invitation to all Irish companies.

The open week will take place from Monday, July 30th until Friday, August 3rd and attendees will have the opportunity for a consultation with staff members regarding their project needs and assessments.

Established in May 2009, the WiSAR Lab at LYIT is an Enterprise Ireland funded Applied Research Enhancement centre. It is nationally recognised as the centre of excellence in wireless technology, performing R&D in the area of wireless Body Area Networks (BAN).

Working in an innovative and engaging environment, the company’s team of engineers have produced pioneering solutions on many projects and across different industries from medical and industrial, to sports and leisure. They focus on the development of wireless sensor networks that would detect and collect various attributes. A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of distributed and independent sensors which monitor physical or environmental properties, using wireless communications to report their readings and to receive commands. The objective is to monitor properties such as temperature, sound, light, vibration, pressure, motion, pollutants and medical properties (such as ECG-heart activity, EMG-electric activity generated by muscles, GSR-skin conductive activity and respiratory monitoring) to be transmitted into a monitoring system using wireless technology.

At the WiSAR Lab, staff members are versatile in the use of wireless sensors, for the majority of their research projects they would use off-the-shelf wireless sensors. They also provide customised wireless sensor development depending on the nature of the project in order to facilitate their partners’ requirements.

Working closely with Enterprise Ireland, the WiSAR Lab maintains its commitment to Irish companies, assisting them in exploring new business opportunities through innovative R&D, giving them access to cutting edge technology and expertise in addition to advising them on the various support and funding programmes provided by Enterprise Ireland; these programmes can provide to 100% funding allowing Irish companies a healthy environment for development and growth.
