Warning issued on increase in residential oil theft

editorial image

Following recent oil theft incidents throughout Ireland, OFTEC, which represents the domestic oil heating industry, has issued a warning and advice to householders to be vigilant.

OFTEC’s advice follows a warning from the Gardai, who are also highlighting the issue after the recent incidents, which have targeted residential oil tanks, schools, businesses and playgroups in urban and quiet residential areas.

Both parties are urging householders to be aware and take precautions to protect their fuel as oil tanks can be seen as easy targets for thieves as many people keep their tanks stocked up during winter. Heating oil is also increasingly becoming an attractive target with the recent increase in fuel prices.
