Vote for Donegal students to win Doodle 4 Google competition

Nine Donegal students have been named as finalists in the fourth annual Doodle 4 Google art competition. They are now amongst 75 Irish students in with a chance of seeing their doodle on the Google Ireland Homepage for all to see. Everyone in Donegal is now being urged to visit www.google.ie/doodle4google and vote for their favourite.

The following students are among 75 regional finalists in with a chance of winning the competition

Molly Ní Chearnaigh, Senior Infants, Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail, Moville; Mark O Donnell, 5th Class, Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana; Brian Alcorn, 6th Class, Scoil Cholmcille, Letterkenny; Ryan Taylor, 6th Class, Scoil Eoin Baiste; Dominika Blaszczok, 1st Year, Errigal College, Letterkenny; Ciara Mc Carthy, 2nd Year, St Catherine’s, Killybegs; Fódhla Mc Bride, 4th Year, Loreto Community School, Milford; Hannah Mooney, 4th Year, Loreto Community School, Milford; Claire Mc Cay, 5th Year, Crana College, Buncrana.

Voting will close at midnight on February 6th. The five most popular doodles, one from each age category, will go forward to the final and a Google master doodler will select the overall winner.

John Herlihy, Head of Google Ireland, said “Every year I am blown away by the imagination that Irish children show in the doodles they create. It is fantastic to see such creativity and passion in Ireland’s youth. This year’s theme of “I wish…” really inspired them, the doodles depict everything you could possibly think of, space travel, dinosaurs, dragons and everything in between.”

“It was extremely difficult for our expert judges to narrow the field of almost 2000 doodles down to just 75 finalists. All of the finalists should be proud of their tremendous achievement. I’d encourage everyone in Donegal to go to the website, have a look at the fantastic doodles that have been created by students from all over the country and vote for their favourites,” he added.

The five class group winners and their teachers will receive a laptop each. The overall winner will also have their doodle shown on the Google Ireland homepage for a whole day in March 2012 and the winner’s school will receive a €10,000 technology grant from Google.
