Union moves to play down Medisize jobs threat

Talks of major job losses by Letterkenny based company Medisize has been played down by trade union SIPTU.

A SIPTU spokesman said they are currently in talks with the medical devices company exploring various options including voluntary redundancy and work sharing options to avoid the losses.

In a statement issued last December, senior management at Medisize indicated that a restructuring programme will be necessary to improve competitiveness and help secure future business at the Letterkenny plant.

Earlier reports stated that up to 25 positions are under threat.

SIPTU’s Martin O’Rourke said the talks have been “positive.”

“It is a win-win situation for us as far as I can see. We protect jobs and they retain skills within the organisation as these workers are second to none. If we are unsuccessful at retaining unemployment, I can guarantee whoever takes them on will be more than satisfied with the way they work,” he stated.
