Ulster Bank extends opening hours
Ulster Bank has extended the opening hours of its branches in Letterkenny and Donegal town after up to 100,000 of the bank’s customers were affected by what the bank called an “unprecedented” technical problem that caused chaos last Tuesday.
The banks will open until 7pm until further notice to facilitate customers experiencing delays in receiving salary or social welfare benefits on the production of payslips and identification. Customers who are unable to get to a branch or an ATM should contact the bank on 1800 205100.
A spokesperson for the bank said: “We confirm that no customer will be out of pocket as a result of this issue. We are also working with the credit reference agencies to ensure that customers’ credit ratings are not impacted.”
The problem, which has been attributed to a software “glitch” also affected the bank’s British parent company, Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest.
The Ulster Bank spokesperson said: “The scale of the backlog is unprecedented and across the Group we are working around the clock to get this resolved” and “apologized unreservedly” for the inconvenience.
The Letterkenny branch of Ulster Bank opened on both Saturday and Sunday to deal with customers’ queries and to help clear the backlog.
An Ulster Bank GAA Roadshow event featuring Pat Spillane, which was to have taken place this Wednesday night at St. Eunan’s GAA Club, Letterkenny, has been postponed “in light of the current technical issues and to ensure that all our resources are focused on working through the backlog of payments”.
