You know you must be doing something right when your rivals start saying nice things about you.
And that’s just the case this weekend as senior Tyrone GAA officials heaped high praise on Donegal’s football evolution.
Bearing in mind that Donegal defeated Tyrone two years in a row at Ulster semi-final stage, the encouragement from Tyrone is all the more significant.
Tyrone county chairman Ciaran McLaughlin and PRO Damien Harvey offered generous praise when they recognised the progress Donegal have made.
“There is no doubt about it, Donegal are the team of the moment,” states McLaughlin,
“You have to admire just where they have got to. In doing this, it is important to reflect on where they have come from. Remember, many of their players have endured a lot of heartbreak in Ulster semi-finals and finals over the past eight or nine years so their faith in Jim McGuinness is now paying handsome dividends.”
Speaking to John Campbell of the Belfast Telegraph PRO David Harvey, one of the most knowledgeable authorities on Ulster football, is equally fulsome in his praise of the north-west side.
“Donegal are the new barometer for the rest of us. Tyrone and Armagh maybe had things their own way in Ulster for the best part of the last 10 years but there has now been a sudden shift of power and you have to hand it to Donegal, they have set a higher standard for the rest of us to aspire to.”
